What is the Hawaii law for how long after expiration a Notary can accept an expired driver's license from a signer for identification? I believe it's a certain amount of time from the issue date.B.B., Hawaii

Hawaii permits the use of driver’s license if it expired no more than three years before the notarization date. The same time duration applies to certain other IDs as well.

Not all states permit Notaries to accept an expired ID as proof of signer ID, and acceptable expiration periods may vary by state. For more information on different state guidelines for expired ID, please see our article and video on Notaries accepting expired identification as proof of signer identity.

Hotline answers are based on the laws in the state where the question originated and may not reflect the laws of other states. If in doubt, always refer to your own state statutes. – The Editors
