Can a document be signed by multiple people online?

Photo of woman with long dark hair on phone. She is looking at papers in her hand. Text on image reads NNA Hotline Tip.

We have a document that requires 14 signatures to be notarized on the same physical document. It will be very difficult to physically meet with all 14 for them to sign the document in person. Is there a way to accomplish this online?C. C., New Mexico

Yes, the document may be notarized online for all signers if the RON platform allows for that number of signers to appear in the same online meeting at once. The signers may also appear at different times with the same or different Notaries. Keep in mind that each new notarization would require an additional notarial certificate naming only those signers present for that particular notarization.

For more information about remote online notarization in other states, please see our RON resources page.

Hotline answers are based on the laws in the state where the question originated and may not reflect the laws of other states. If in doubt, always refer to your own state statutes. – The Editors

Multiple persons signatures can be notarized on the same certificate or each person needs their own certificate? Example 5 people sign that means 5 stamps on one certificate, or is it 5 people all on one certificate and one stamp for all five signatures?

Hello. To help us answer your question, what state is the notarization you describe taking place in?

Thank you. You can enter as many names that can legibly fit in one certificate. If you run out of room, then you can attach another certificate. Florida requires for the Notary to enter how the signer was identified, so this information would have to included for each signer too.
