What Is The Best Way To Attach A Notary Certificate?

New Hotline Resized 3What is the preferred method to attach a loose certificate to a document so it deters fraudulent removal and reattachment to another document? S.B., Washington

The preferred method is stapling the certificate to the document. You may also add a description of the document you are notarizing. Example, “This certificate is attached to (title of document), dated ______, number of pages ____.”  This statement may be placed below your signature & seal.

I have used a signers thumbprint on a notarized document in addition to their signature, as addtitional evidence they signed the document. us this acceptable?

Hello. If your state law addresses thumbprint requirements, you should follow your state's guidelines. If your state does not address this issue in your laws, you may ask for a thumbprint but the signer has the right to refuse.
