Wisconsin Notaries Now Regulated By New State Agency

Wisconsin’s Notaries are now under the authority of the state Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), which has taken over the administration of new and renewing Notary commission applications from the Secretary of State.

The state’s recently passed 2011 budget bill, Wisconsin Act 32, transferred Notary-regulating duties to the DFI as of July 1, 2011, and DFI will now handle all matters relating to new and renewing Notary commissions. The new state information page for Wisconsin Notary Public information can be found here, or you can contact the DFI by phone at 608-266-8915.
