New Business Identity Theft Website And NASS White Paper Provide Anti-Fraud Resources

Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos announced the launch of the first online resource dedicated to helping businesses protect themselves against identity theft. The website,, was created by the Identity Theft Protection Association (ITPA) with support from the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS).

The website is designed to educate consumers and businesses on how to detect and prevent the most common types of fraud, while also providing information on the products and technologies now available to help businesses in their risk management efforts. While the website is aimed at a nationwide audience, it also features state and local resources, including agencies dedicated to assisting victims of ID theft and other forms of fraud.

“Getting good information to the public in an easy to understand way is at the heart of catching Business ID theft at the filing level,” said Secretary Condo in a recent statement.

The National Association of Secretaries of State has also issued a white paper to address the issue of ID theft, titled “Developing State Solutions to Business Identity Theft”, providing a detailed overview of the assistance, prevention and detection efforts currently being made by Secretary of State offices nationwide.

Notaries play a key role in combating business identity fraud and can help organizations mitigate risk by detecting and preventing forgery and identity theft. For companies that employ Notaries, the NNA recommends creating a Notary education and oversight program that further ensures that staff Notaries remain a key component of their fraud prevention program.
