Hotline Tip: Get Agreement On Travel Fees In Advance

Most states limit fees that can be charged for notarizations, but many permit Notaries to charge for traveling to a client. Before accepting an assignment, make certain your signer understands and agrees to all your fees, whether it’s a flat rate or mileage charge.

As long as everyone understands the total cost, there won’t be grounds to complain when it’s time to settle up. Rules vary from state to state, make sure to check what is allowed in your community before determining how much to charge.
