1,000 U.S. Counties Now Electronically Recording Documents

eFiles.jpgOne thousand county recording offices across the United States are now electronically recording documents, according to the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA).

The use of electronic document recording or "eRecording," has seen a significant jump nationwide over the past seven years. PRIA reports that while only 200 counties were using eRecording in 2006, more than 1,300 counties are predicted to be using this technology by the end of the year.

"Between June 2012 and August 2013, the number of counties committing to the eRecording process increased by more than 25 percent," said Washoe County, Nevada, Recorder Larry Burtness, PRIA's Technology Committee co-chair.

The growing use of eRecording also helps pave the way to wider acceptance of electronic notarization as a way to authenticate and enhance the overall security of document transactions.
