SummaryWisconsin AB 40 raises the fees Notaries may charge for a notarial act to a maximum of $5.

Changes - Raises the fee Notaries may charge from $1 to $5 for drawing and copy of protest of the nonpayment of a promissory note or bill of exchange, or of the nonacceptance of such bill.
- Raises the fee Notaries may charge from 50 cents to not more than $5 for drawing a copy of every other protest.
- Raises the fee Notaries may charge from 50 cents to not more than $5 for drawing, copying and serving every notice of nonpayment of a note or bill, or nonacceptance of a bill.
- Raises the fee Notaries may charge from 50 cents to not more than $5 for each folio for drawing an affidavit or other paper or proceeding for which the statute does not provide a fee.
- Provides that for taking an acknowledgment, and for other services authorized by law, Notaries may charge the same fees as are allowed to other officers for similar services, but the fee per document must not exceed $5.
AnalysisAs part of the state of Wisconsin's biennial budget bill, the Governor has signed into law provisions allowing Notaries to charge as much as $5 for the notarial acts they perform.
