House Bill 2205 and Senate Bill 1247 are companion bills which allow the Secretary of the Commonwealth to accept applications for recommission as a Notary containing the electronic signature of the Notary.

Analysis:

House Bill 2205/Senate Bill 1247 were identical bills allowing the Secretary of the Commonwealth to accept applications for recommissioning as a Notary Public with electronic signatures as authorized under the Virginia Uniform Electronic Transactions Act. These bills were touted in committee hearings by the Secretary of the Commonwealth as promoting “efficient government.”
