Summary

A new administrative rule reduces the amount of the Notary application fee.

Affects

Amends Regulation .04 under the Code of Maryland Regulations Section 01.02.08.

Changes

Reduces the application fee for both new and renewing Notary commissions from $20 to $9.

Analysis

The cost to become a Notary in Maryland just became less expensive with the reduction in the application fee for new and renewing Notaries. The application fee is now $9, down from $20. The Maryland Secretary of State's office indicated in the proposed action to reduce the fee that with the reduction it anticipates a reduction in revenue of approximately $221,550 per year.
