Summary

House Bill 385 provides that the oath of office of a public official must be recorded by the Secretary of State free of charge.

Changes
  1. Provides that the Secretary of State shall record the oath of office for public officials at no charge to the public official.
  2. Provides that the oath of office of parish officers shall be recorded by the clerk of court of the parish in which the oath was administered, at no charge to the parish official.
Analysis

House Bill 385 simply requires that the oath of office of any public or parish official be recorded, free of charge to the official, by the Secretary of State or the clerk of court in the official’s parish, respectively. This means Notaries who take an oath of office should not be charged for filing their oaths of office.
