Summary

House Bill 3011 requires each member of the board of trustees of a community college district to, before entering upon the duties of the office, take and subscribe to an oath that may be administered by a Notary Public.

Affects

Adds Section 3-7.12 to Chapter 110, Act 805 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes.

  2. Specifies that the oath must be administered by the board secretary, a Notary Public, or another officer authorized to administer oaths.
  3. Takes effect January 1, 2026.
Analysis

This new law simply requires community college district board of trustee members to take and sign an oath of office before beginning their duties. This oath may be administered by a Notary Public. 765 ILCS 30/2 and 5 ILCS 312/1-104 “Notarial act” authorize Illinois Notaries to administer oaths and affirmations.
