VA Senate Bill 760

State: Virginia
Signed: March 20, 2005

Effective: July 01, 2005
Chapter: 18

Senate Bill 760 raises the fees Virginia Notaries may charge from $3 to $5.

Amends Section 47.1-19 of the Code of Virginia.

  1. Raises from $3 to $5 the maximum fee Notaries may charge for taking acknowledgments, administering and certifying oaths, certifying affidavits and depositions of witnesses, and certifying that a copy of a document is a true copy.

Laws raising Notary fees are always welcome and with enactment of Senate Bill 760 Virginia’s fees are now a more respectable $5 per notarial act. Seventeen states now allow Notaries to charge $5; only six jurisdictions have higher fees (PR, CA, FL, GU, MI, SD, TX).
