Affects

Amends Section 46.1-19 of the Code of Virginia

Changes
  1. Clarifies that for performing a notarial act, a Notary may charge up to $5.
Analysis

This new law clarifies that a Notary may charge a fee up to a maximum of $5. Previous law stated that a Notary could charge a fee “of” $5, evidently resulting in confusion that if a Notary charged for a notarial act, the fee had be $5.
