House Bill 995 allows a medical power of attorney to be acknowledged before a Notary or witnessed by two competent adult witnesses.

Amends Sections 166.155 and 166.164 to and repeals Sections 166.162 and 166.163 of the Health and Safety Code.

Changes:
  1. Allows a medical power of attorney to be acknowledged before a Notary or witnessed by two competent adult witnesses. 
  2. Provides a statutory medical power of attorney form. 
Analysis:

House Bill 995 provides the option so common in many states of having a medical power of attorney acknowledged before a Notary or before two adult witnesses.
