Changes: - Raises the fee Notaries may charge for most notarial acts named in the statute from $1 to $5.
- Raises the fee Notaries may charge for taking an affidavit or paper for which provision is not made in the statute, from $1 to $5 per folio, and from 20 cents to $1 per folio for copies.
- Raises the fee Notaries may charge for recording each instrument required by law to be recorded by the Notary, from $1 to $5 per folio.
Analysis:House File 155 raises the statutory maximum fees Notaries may charge for their services, in most cases from $1 to $5. The last time the fee statute was amended was 1986; therefore, an adjustment to the fee schedule was overdue and the increase is welcome. The new law takes effect on August 1, 2014.
