FL Senate Bill 596

Notary Law Update: FL Senate Bill 596

State: Florida

Summary:

Senate Bill 596 makes minor, technical changes to Florida Statutes Sections 117.021, 117.245 and 117.265.

Signed:  February 12, 2020

Effective:  May 12, 2020

Chapter: 2020-2

Affects:

Amends Sections 117.021, 117.and 117.265 of the Florida Statutes.

Changes:
  1. Clarifies that the Department of State, in collaboration with the Department of Management Services (formerly Agency for State Technology), shall adopt rules to establish standards for tamper-evident technologies for electronic notarizations.
  2. Corrects a typographic error in Florida Statutes Section 117.245.
  3. Corrects a typographic error in Florida Statutes Section 117.265.
Analysis:

State legislatures from time to time go back into their state codes to make updates and to correct typographical errors that were not discovered during the process of enacting legislation. Such is the case with Senate Bill 296. The changes made to three sections appearing in the Notary statutes of Florida Statutes Chapter 117 do not affect the substance of these sections.
