Summary

House Bill 1787 now permits a declaration for mental health treatment to be acknowledged before a Notary.

Amends Section 137.003 of the Civil Practice and Remedies Code.

Changes
  1. Allows a declaration form mental health treatment to be signed by the principal and acknowledged before a Notary in addition to the option of signing the declaration before 2 witnesses. 
Analysis

Prior to the enactment of HB 1787, an individual signing a declaration for mental health treatment was required to sign the declaration in front of 2 witnesses. Now, a declaration may be acknowledged before a Notary.
