Summary
House Bill 227 authorizes the use of a Notary’s or ex officio Notary’s electronic signature on a sworn traffic citation that is to be used as a lawful complaint submitted to a court for the purpose of prosecution.
Affects
Amends Section 398.4 of Title 32 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes.
Changes

Provides that a sworn uniform traffic citation may be signed with the electronic signature of a Notary Public or ex officio Notary Public.

Analysis

Louisiana law requires each traffic enforcement officer to deposit an original or a copy of any traffic citation issued to an alleged violator with the appropriate court or traffic violations bureau with jurisdiction over the alleged offense. House Bill 227 authorizes the use of a Notary’s or ex officio Notary’s electronic signature on a sworn traffic citation used for this purpose.
