Live Training at the NNA

Our live Notary seminars are available in California only. Due to COVID-19, large gatherings are currently restricted. For the safety of our customers, our live seminars have been converted to live webinars for the coming months.For your peace of mind, we are continually monitoring state and county health guidelines so we can practice up-to-date precautions.

Your Health Is Our Top Priority

We are coordinating efforts with our venues across the state and updating our procedures to help keep you and our staff safe. If you don't feel well, please stay home and give us a call at 1-800-876-6827 to reschedule.

The following measures will be in place at all NNA exam locations.

  • Extra cleaning precautions to disinfect the surfaces with which you may be in contact.
  • New check-in procedures to maintain social distancing in line and minimize contact at the desk.
  • A wellness declaration that all attendees must sign at registration.
  • No-contact Live Scan fingerprinting everywhere we offer this service.
  • Limited attendance for safer spacing so attendees can be seated per social distancing guidelines.

Here's how you can do your part on the day of the exam.

  • Wear a face mask at all times. New check-in procedures to maintain social distancing in line and minimize contact at the desk.
  • Bring your own water, coffee or tea. For everyone's safety, self-serve beverages will not be available.
  • Provide your own protection. If you'd like, you may bring gloves, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.
  • Stay up-to-date. As the situation continues to evolve, please note that we will contact you if additional precautions are needed.

What does the seminar day look like? Is there a schedule?

Please be mindful of the following schedule. Per state rules, if you are more than 10 minutes late for the seminar, you will not be allowed in and will need to reschedule.

  • Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 8:15 a.m. Please arrive early to find parking.
  • The seminar starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.
  • There will be two 15-minute breaks and a 1-hour lunch. You must provide your own meal. Please be aware that some venues may restrict eating on the premises.

What if I need to reschedule, transfer or cancel my training?

As a reminder, state rules prohibit late arrivals from admission to a seminar that has begun. To reschedule your training, switch to online training or to cancel, call 1-800-876-6827 at your earliest convenience.

  • You can reschedule your live training at no charge.
  • Cancellations will receive a full refund upon request.
  • Cancelation, transfer and refund policies are subject to change without notice.

Is parking provided at the Notary seminar?

Parking is on your own. Contact the venue for information on parking location and rates. Please be aware that some venues do not provide in-and-out privileges.

Do I need to buy training materials for the class?

All workbooks will be provided to you at the seminar.

May I record my seminar in order to study for the exam?

No. Recording of the program is strictly prohibited.

Is my Notary training tax deductible?

All expenses (registration, travel, meals and lodging) of education undertaken to maintain or improve your professional skills are tax deductible (Treasury Regulation 1.162-5). State deductions are subject to limitations of the tax code. See your tax preparer for advice.

How can I confirm my registration?

  • If you register online, you can print out your confirmation on the receipt page.
  • If you registered by phone, you should receive your confirmation via email no later than two days before the seminar.
  • If you do not receive your confirmation within two days of the seminar, please call Customer Care at 1-800-876-6827.

What should I bring to the seminar?

Please bring your registration confirmation and accommodations for two breaks and a lunch. If you plan to take the California Notary Exam following the California Seminar, please bring:

  • Two sharpened #2 pencils for the exam and a pen for the seminar.
  • Notary Public application (all pages, including instructions) - or you may pick one up at the seminar.  
  • A check or money order for $40.00 payable to "Secretary of State" ($20.00 for those re-taking the exam). Cash and temporary checks are not accepted.
  • A current state-issued picture ID. Acceptable IDs are:
    • Driver's license or state DMV ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver's license
    • U.S. Passport or passport issued by a foreign government
    • U.S. Military ID card
    • IMPORTANT: No other forms of photo ID are allowed. If a driver's license issued by the DMV has a punched hole in the card, it is NOT acceptable. Paper driver's license are not accepted, including paper license extensions issued by the DMV.

    What do I need to bring to get my Live Scan fingerprinting?

    All new and renewing applicants are required to have Live Scan fingerprints taken. Live Scan fingerprinting services are available at all NNA seminar locations.

    In you ONLY have a foreign passport as your form of ID, you must present two additional supporting documents. Choose two from the list below:

    • Utility bill with address
    • Jurisdictional voter registration card
    • Vehicle registration card/title
    • Paycheck stub
    • Jurisdictional public assistance card
    • Spouse/parent affidavit
    • Cancelled check or bank statement
    • Mortgage documents

NNA's Trusted Notary program takes charge of the complex requirements and time-consuming commissioning process.
