California Seminar Hours & Check-In

Registration hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. The seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you are taking the California Notary Exam following the seminar, you must pre-register before the seminar and check in for the exam at conclusion of the seminar. If there are a large number of attendees, the check-in process may take longer and the exam can go as late as 6:30 p.m.

For all full-day programs, a one-hour lunch break is scheduled for noon. Please plan to make your own lunch arrangements.

Punctuality Policy

Give yourself plenty of travel time. There is no admittance to the seminar if you are more than 10 minutes late. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will need to call the NNA to reschedule your seminar date. 

There is a one-hour break for lunch. You need to provide your own meal. Be aware that some locations may restrict eating food on premises.

Transfers/Cancelations

Cancelations received seven days prior to the initial scheduled live seminar or webinar date will receive a full refund. Cancelations after this date will be assessed a $50 processing fee or the full price of the seminar/webinar, whichever is less. The processing fee will be deducted from the refund. Program transfer requests received by noon Pacific Time one business day prior to the initial scheduled seminar date will be processed at no charge. Program transfer requests received after this time will be assessed a $25 processing fee. Admittance to late arrivals is prohibited due to state rules; cancelation and transfer policies will apply. Cancelation, transfer and refund policies are subject to change without notice.

Facility Parking

Parking is on your own. We suggest you arrive sufficiently early to assure space availability. Contact the program site for information on parking location and rates. Please be aware that some venues do not provide in-and-out privileges.

May I record my seminar in order to study for the exam?

Recording of the program is not permitted.

Is my training tax deductible?

All expenses (registration, travel, meals and lodging) of education undertaken to maintain or improve your professional skills are tax deductible (Treasury Regulation 1.162-5). State deductions are subject to limitations of the tax code. See your tax preparer for advice.

How can I confirm my registration?

If you register online, you will be able to print your confirmation on the receipt page.

If you registered by phone, you should receive your confirmation no later than two days before the seminar.

If you do not receive your confirmation within two days of the seminar, please call Customer Care at 1-800-US NOTARY (1-800-876-6827).

What should I bring to the seminar?

Please bring your registration confirmation and accommodations for two breaks and a lunch. If you plan to take the California Notary Exam following the California Seminar, please bring:

  • Two sharpened #2 pencils for the exam and a pen for the seminar.
  • Notary Public application (all pages) - or you may pick one up at the seminar.  California Applications must be double-sided to be accepted by the state.
  • A check or money order for $40.00 payable to "Secretary of State" ($20.00 for those re-taking the exam). Cash and temporary checks are not accepted.
  • A current state-issued picture ID. Acceptable IDs are:
    • Driver's license or state DMV ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver's license
    • U.S. Passport or passport issued by a foreign government
    • U.S. Military ID card
  • IMPORTANT: No other forms of photo ID are allowed. If a driver's license issued by the DMV has a punched hole in the card, it is NOT acceptable. Paper driver's license are not accepted, including paper license extensions issued by the DMV.

Live Scan fingerprinting

All new and renewing applicants are required to have Live Scan fingerprints taken. Live Scan fingerprinting services are available at all seminar locations.

In the event that you have a foreign passport as your ONLY form of ID and you need to have your fingerprints taken via Live Scan, you will be required to bring two additional supporting documents. Choose two from the list below:

  • Utility bill with address
  • Jurisdictional voter registration card
  • Vehicle registration card/title
  • Paycheck stub
  • Jurisdictional public assistance card
  • Spouse/parent affidavit
  • Cancelled check or bank statement
  • Mortgage documents
