What to know when renewing your District of Columbia Notary Commission

  • When to start: Submit your renewal application and the $75 fee at least 12 weeks before your current commission expires to avoid a lapse. Applications must be completed online—faxed, emailed, or mailed submissions are not accepted. Be sure to review the renewal timeline for specific deadline requirements.
  • Use an official Notary seal. New Hampshire Notaries must use an official seal for all notarial acts. For paper documents, this may be an inked rubber stamp or embosser.
  • Get required tools: District of Columbia Notaries must use a seal embosser and keep a Notary journal for all notarizations.
