What to know when renewing your Oklahoma Notary commission

  • Confirm eligibility. You must continue to meet Oklahoma eligibility requirements including residency or employment status, and no disqualifying felony convictions.
  • Submit your Notary renewal application and fee to the state. You can begin the renewal process up to six weeks before your current commission expires.
  • Complete the required national criminal history record check after applying. Oklahoma requires a background check for all applicants, including renewing Notaries.
  • A Notary Bond is required. A new Oklahoma law increases the required Notary bond amount to $10,000 for all commission applications submitted on or after January 1, 2026. All of our Notary packages include the $10,000 bond required under the new law. If you submitted your Notary application before January 1, 2026, you still qualify for the $1,000 bond requirement. Please call us at 1-800-876-6827 so we can assist you. 
  • After your renewal application and background check are approved, the Oklahoma Secretary of State will issue your renewed Notary commission.
  • A new Notary seal is required. You must purchase a new Notary seal for your next commission term.
  • Within 60 days of commission issuance, file your bond and required oaths, signature, and seal impression with the Oklahoma Secretary of State.
