What to know before you become a Notary Public in Oklahoma

  • Confirm Eligibility. You must be 18+, able to read and write English, and be a U.S. citizen, a legal Oklahoma resident, or an out-of-state resident employed in Oklahoma, with no felony convictions.
  • Submit your Notary application and fee to the state.
  • Complete the required national criminal history record check after applying.
  • Obtain a Notary bond. Oklahoma requires a $10,000 bond for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2026. Applications submitted before that date qualify for the prior $1,000 bond requirement. Oklahoma requires a $10,000 bond for applications submitted on or after January 1, 2026. Applications submitted before that date may qualify under the prior $1,000 bond requirement. Our Notary packages include the $10,000 bond required under the new law. Questions? Call 1-800-876-6827. 
  • After your application and background check are approved, the Oklahoma Secretary of State will issue your Notary commission.
  • Within 60 days after your commission is issued, file your bond and required oaths, signature, and seal impression with the Oklahoma Secretary of State.
