How to Become an Illinois Notary in 3 Easy Steps

Order Your State-Required Bond, Official Seal and Supplies  
The NNA will provide everything you need to become a Notary in Illinois, including your state-required Notary bond, official seal stamp and journal.  Note that Illinois has different requirements for Non-Residents.

Complete Your State-Required Application and Send it to the NNA
Complete and send your original Illinois Notary Public Application to the National Notary Association by following the instructions included with the application.  The NNA will submit your application, bond, and state filing fees to the Secretary of State.

Requirements to Become
an Illinois Notary

  • 18 years of age
  • U.S. citizen or alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence
  • State resident for minimum 30 days or resident of qualifying border state
    while employed in Illinois for minimum 30 days
  • Must read, write and understand English
  • No lifetime felony conviction
  • Not had a Notary commission revoked or suspended in past 10 years
