What to know when applying to become a Notary in Alabama

  • Make sure you meet Alabama Notary requirements. You must be 18 or older, able to read and write English, live in the county where you are applying, and have no felony convictions. You must also not be currently undergoing bankruptcy or under an ongoing adjudication of incapacity.
  • Training is through the state. All applicants must complete a Notary training course prepared by the Alabama Probate Judges Association and the Alabama Law Institute. There is no Notary exam required.
  • It can take up to six weeks to get commissioned. Once approved, the Probate Office will send you your letter of appointment.
