What to know when applying to become a Florida Notary Public

  • Confirm your eligibility. You must be at least 18 years old; a New Mexico resident or employed in the state; able to read and write English; not have been convicted within the past five years of a felony or a crime involving fraud, dishonesty, or deceit; not have had a Notary commission denied, suspended, or revoked in another state; and not be disqualified under Section 22 of the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts.
  • Submit your application and documents. Apply through the Secretary of State’s online filing portal and submit your signed and notarized surety bond, signed and notarized oath of office, and the $30 application fee.
  • Register your official stamp. Within 45 days of approval, submit a PDF of your official stamp through the Secretary of State’s online filing portal.
  • Allow time for processing. The New Mexico Secretary of State (not the NNA) is the commissioning authority. Processing typically takes 2–10 weeks.
