What to know when applying to become a Notary in Nevada

  • You’ll need to meet certain requirements. You must be 18 or older, a Nevada resident (or live in a bordering state and work in Nevada), and have your civil rights restored if previously convicted of a felony. You also cannot currently hold a public office in the U.S. federal government or have had a Notary commission revoked in another state.
  • Complete your training and exam with the state. Nevada requires new Notaries to complete training and pass an exam.
  • The application process requires a few steps. After completing your training and exam, you’ll need to submit your bond to the county clerk to receive a filing notice. Then, submit your filing notice with your Nevada Notary application, filing fee, and training certificate to the Secretary of State.
  • Getting commissioned can take up to four weeks. Once approved, the Nevada Secretary of State will issue your commission, not the National Notary Association.
