What to know when applying to become a Delaware Notary Pubic

  • Confirm your eligibility. You must be at least 18 years old; a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident; able to read and write English; a Delaware resident or a non-resident employed in Delaware; not disqualified from receiving a commission under 29 Del. Code §4334; not convicted of a felony (unless your rights have been restored); and not convicted of a crime involving dishonesty or moral turpitude.
  • Use required tools. Delaware Notaries must use an official Notary seal and maintain a Notary journal.
  • Submit your application. Register on the Delaware Secretary of State website, complete the application, and submit it with the $60 fee.
  • Allow time for processing. The Delaware Secretary of State (not the NNA) is the commissioning authority. Processing may take up to two weeks.
