How long does it take to train and take the California notary exam with the NNA?

The NNA provides convenient Live Scan fingerprint and photo services at all exam locations for to ease and speed up your process. How do I become a notary in California?
To become a California notary you must take the following steps:
- Take a 6-hour training course
- Complete the CA Notary Public application form
- Pass the state administered exam and supply a color passport photo
- Submit your livescan service request along with fingerprints for the background check
- Receive your commission
- Get your $15,000 surety bond
- File your bond and oath of office with the county clerk within 30 days
Do you offer notary supplies, bonds, and phone support?
The NNA conveniently offers all state-required supplies and bonds needed to perform notary duties. These can be purchased separately from our training. We also include unmatched hotline phone support to answer all your toughest notary questions.
What is the NNA’s refund policy?
Online training is 100% refundable if the course has not been started. Live seminar training can be canceled or rescheduled at no charge.
Stamps, embossers, notary journals, books, forms, and other supplies are 100% refundable.
Errors and omissions insurance is refundable if the policy is canceled within 30 days of activation.
Notary bonds are 100% refundable if the bond has not been filed with your county or state.
Background screenings are 100% refundable if the screening has not been started. Fingerprinting is 100% refundable if neither fingerprints or photos were taken.
Does the NNA offer a guarantee? How do I know I will pass?
We guarantee you’ll pass the state exam when you take our training. Retake our live seminars or online course as many times as needed in order to pass the exam.
