What to know before you become a Notary Public in Oklahoma

  • Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. You must be 18 or older and either a U.S. citizen, a legal resident of Oklahoma, or an out-of-state resident employed in Oklahoma. You must also be able to read and write English and have no felony convictions.
  • It can take up to ten weeks for your application to be processed. Once approved, the Secretary of State will issue your Notary commission.
  • Follow these steps after you receive your commission. Within 60 days of your commission being issued, you’ll need to file your bond, oath of office, loyalty oath, official signature, and an impression of your Notary seal with the Secretary of State.
