What to know before you become a Notary in Colorado

  • Meet Colorado Notary requirements. There are a few qualifications you’ll need to meet before applying. You must be 18 or older, a permanent legal resident or lawfully present in the U.S, live or work in Colorado, and be able to read and write in English. See the full list of requirements.
  • Training and an exam are required. You'll need to complete training and pass the state’s online exam. All of our Colorado Notary packages include a state-approved course to help you meet the training requirement.
  • Have your paperwork ready when applying. Include a copy of your ID card, training certificate, exam certificate, and $10 filing fee when submitting your Colorado Notary application.
  • Commission approval times vary by county. Most commissions are approved within 3 – 5 business days. Once your approved, you’ll be commissioned by the Colorado Secretary of State.
