Our state-approved live training allows you to interact with a live instructor and ask questions while you learn. Live Scan fingerprinting and application photo services are available before the seminar begins. Is there a schedule for the exam-only sessions?

Morning exams are available at selected locations.

Schedule
  • 7:30 a.m. check-in. Live Scan and photo services available upon check-in, ending when the exam prep begins.
  • 8:30 a.m. exam prep. Don't miss our instructor-led refresher, created to help you prepare — and pass — the exam.
  • 10:00 a.m. exam registration. The CPS proctor will collect your state fee and start the exam as soon as everyone is registered.

Is parking provided at your exam locations?

Parking fees is on your own. Contact the venue for information on parking locations and rates. Please be aware that some venues do not provide in-and-out privileges.

What should I bring to the exam?

Please be prepared on the day of your exam by bringing the following:

  • A printout of the Proof of Completion of your Notary training.
  • A Notary Public application (all pages, single-sided, including instructions), or you may pick one up at the venue.
  • A check or money order for $40.00 payable to "Secretary of State" ($20.00 for those re-taking the exam). Cash and temporary checks are not accepted.
  • A current (not expired) state-issued picture ID such as a:
    • California driver's license or DMV-issued ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver's license
    • Passport (U.S. or foreign)
    • U.S. military ID card

IMPORTANT: If a driver's license issued by the DMV has a punched hole in the card, it is NOT acceptable. Paper driver's licenses, including paper license extensions issued by the DMV, are not accepted.

Can I use a foreign passport as my identification?

If you ONLY have a foreign passport as your form of ID, you must present two additional supporting documents. Choose two from the list below:

  • Utility bill with your address
  • Jurisdictional voter registration card
  • Vehicle registration card/title
  • Paycheck stub
  • Jurisdictional public assistance card
  • Spouse/parent affidavit
  • Canceled check or bank statement
  • Mortgage documents

Do I need to buy training materials for the class?

All workbooks and materials will be provided to you at no additional charge.

Is my Notary training tax-deductible?

All expenses (registration, travel, meals, and lodging) of education undertaken to maintain or improve your professional skills are tax-deductible (Treasury Regulation 1.162-5). State deductions are subject to limitations of the tax code. See your tax preparer for advice.

What if I need to reschedule, transfer, or cancel my training?

As a reminder, state rules prohibit late arrivals from admission into a training or exam that has begun. To reschedule, transfer, or cancel your training or exam, call 1-800-876-6827 at your earliest convenience.

  • You can reschedule your training or exam at no charge.
  • Cancellations will receive a full refund upon request.
  • Cancellation, transfer, and refund policies are subject to change without notice.
