What to know when applying to become a Pennsylvania Notary Public

  • Make sure you’re eligible. You must be 18 or older, a U.S. citizen or legal resident, legally reside in Pennsylvania or employed in the state, able to read and write English, be of good moral character, and have no felony convictions.
  • Submit your application and certificate. After completing your training, visit the Secretary of State’s website to fill out your online Notary application and submit your training certificate of completion.
  • Take your Notary exam with the state. Once your application is approved by the state, you'll receive an email from them to register for the state-administered Notary exam.
  • Pennsylvania Notaries must hold a $10,000 bond. All of our Pennsylvania Notary packages include your state-required Notary bond. 
  • Your commission lasts four years. In Pennsylvania, your Noary comission (sometimes referred to as a Notary Public License) is appointed by the PA Department of State.
