Celebrating The 2005 Notary of the Year: Carol Salter
As we begin the search for the 2012 Notary of the Year to be honored at next year’s Conference in San Diego, the NNA takes a look back at past distinguished NOTY recipients over the years. This week’s profile is 2005 NOTY Carol Salter.
A former high school teacher, Carol Salter of Colorado has always had a passion for education. Even after becoming a Notary for McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado, Carol took on the responsibility to teach fellow Notaries at her office what they needed to know when notarizing documents, becoming an NNA Certified Instructor in 2001 to help train her co-workers.
From there, she added a video presentation and online information and quizzes to her curriculum. Impressed with her dedication and thoroughness, her employers later asked her to train Notaries at other local healthcare facilities.
After being named the NNA’s 2005 Notary of the Year, Carol had several new opportunities open up for her. Not only is she training an expanded number of Notaries in her field, she also helped advance the American Notary Office through advocating for new laws in her home state.
“Since 2005, I have worked with Colorado state legislators toward the passage of new legislation requiring a journal record for all notarial acts in Colorado and mandatory education for newly commissioned Notaries,” she said.
Carol is also now responsible for training Notaries for branches of her company, Banner Health, in several different regions of the country. “This means I am studying new laws affecting Notaries in several states!” she said.
Carol loves the chance to meet and interact with other Notaries at events, particularly the NNA’s annual Conference. “I believe there are many excellent Notaries across this country of ours who are doing stellar work every day,” she said. “I was honored to be selected as a Notary of the Year, but there are many others out there who truly deserve that recognition as well.”
