New California Notary Law

The new California Notary Law, effective January 1st, 2008, makes important changes in Notary practice in the state. Test your knowledge of these changes with the short quiz below.

Effective January 1, 2008, significant changes in the California state Notary application process will take effect.

 
 
    1. Beginning January 1st, California state law mandates that persons applying for a Notary commission in the state must present both a 2" x 2" color passport photo and scanned fingerprint images when applying. This applies to:

 
   
a. First-time commission applicants only.
 
b. First time and renewing commission applicants.
 
c. First-time and renewing commission applicants whose commission has expired by 6 months or more.
 
d. First time and renewing commission applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony.
