Eligibility |
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a resident of Hawaii
- Be a United States citizen, national or a permanent alien resident of the United States who is diligently seeking United States citizenship

Application and Bond Filing Procedures |
Call the NNA at 1-800-US NOTARY (1-800-876-6827) if you have any questions during this process.- Order your Complete Notary Supply Package (see "Become" and "Renew" links above) – which includes your State-required Notary Bond.*
- Submit your Notary Public Application to the State, enclosing your State application fees.
- Pass the State-required Notary Exam (given following approval of your Application).
- Receive your State-issued Letter of Passing or Renewal Letter (within 4 to 6 weeks).
- Forward a COPY of your Letter of Passing or Renewal Letter to the NNA for processing.
- We will mail your activated Notary Bond to you via First Class mail.
- File your Notary Bond with the Clerk of Circuit Court.

The Notary's official seal must include: The name of the Notary, the Notary's commission number and the words "Notary Public and "State of Hawaii."

The seal must be circular, not over 2 inches in diameter, and have a "serrated or milled edge border." The seal may still be either an inking stamp or an embosser. Rectangular seals are no longer allowed.
