    Eligibility
    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Be a resident of Hawaii
    • Be a United States citizen, national or a permanent alien resident of the United States who is diligently seeking United States citizenship
     

    Application and Bond Filing Procedures
    Call the NNA at 1-800-US NOTARY (1-800-876-6827) if you have any questions during this process.
    • Order your Complete Notary Supply Package (see "Become" and "Renew" links above) – which includes your State-required Notary Bond.*
    • Submit your Notary Public Application to the State, enclosing your State application fees.
    • Pass the State-required Notary Exam (given following approval of your Application).
    • Receive your State-issued Letter of Passing or Renewal Letter (within 4 to 6 weeks).
    • Forward a COPY of your Letter of Passing or Renewal Letter to the NNA for processing.
    • We will mail your activated Notary Bond to you via First Class mail.
    • File your Notary Bond with the Clerk of Circuit Court.

    Notary Provisions
    Term: Four Years
    Commissioning Fee: $40.00 for NEW or RENEWAL commissions
    Application Fee: $10.00 for NEW or RENEWING Notaries
    Bond Required: $1,000
    Seal Required: The Notary's official seal must include: The name of the Notary, the Notary's commission number and the words "Notary Public and "State of Hawaii."
    The seal must be circular, not over 2 inches in diameter, and have a "serrated or milled edge border." The seal may still be either an inking stamp or an embosser. Rectangular seals are no longer allowed.
    Jurisdiction: State (all islands and waters of Hawaii)
    Journal: Required by law
    Notary Public Sign: Required by Administrative Rules

    Guide to Notary Fees
    Acknowledgments: $5.00, then $2.50 for every duplicate original beyond the first
    Jurats: $5.00, then a $2.50 fee for every “duplicate original beyond the fourth
    Oaths & Affirmations: $5.00
    Deposition: $5.00
    Protest: $5.00 + $5.00 for each notice and certified copy of protest
