    Eligibility
    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Be a resident of the District or a non-resident who is employed by a business physically located in the District and with a business address in the District
     

    Application and Bond Filing Procedures
    Call the NNA at 1-800-US NOTARY (1-800-876-6827) if you have any questions during this process.
    • Order your Complete Notary Supply Package (see "Become" and "Renew" links above) – which includes your State-required Notary Bond.*
    • Submit your Notary Public Application and Notary Exam to the Office of the Secretary, enclosing your State application fees.
    • Receive your State-issued Notary Surety Bond Form (within 4 to 6 weeks).
    • Forward your ORIGINAL Notary Surety Bond Form to the NNA for processing.
    • We will mail your activated Notary Bond to you via First Class mail.
    • File your Notary Bond with the County Clerk.
