What Would You Do: The Case Of Healthy Signing Agent Competition

The NNA Hotline receives hundreds of calls daily from Notaries nationwide who find themselves in challenging signing situations. To help boost your knowledge of Notary Best Practices, we have created a series of scenarios based on actual signings, and ask you to weigh in on what you would do if faced with a similar situation.

Imagine it’s late on a Thursday afternoon, and one of your regular clients calls and asks if you can meet her at a hospital 30 minutes outside of town, to notarize a power of attorney document. The only problem is, you already have a loan signing booked on the other side of town, and you just can’t handle both.

“It’s an emergency,” your client says, explaining that the patient in question is heading into surgery and needs to have the notarization performed while she is still conscious and aware.

“If you can’t make it, can you recommend another Notary who can handle the job?” asks your client. “Given the circumstance, I want to find someone I can trust.”

You don’t want to let down your loyal client, especially given the sensitive scenario, but you also can’t cancel the booked loan signing at the last minute.
