Louisiana law requires all Notaries to purchase and maintain a $10,000 Notary surety bond or errors & omissions insurance (E&O) every five years. The Notary bond protects the general public of Louisiana against any financial loss due to improper conduct by an Louisiana Notary. The bond is NOT insurance protection for Louisiana Notaries.

Processing your Louisiana bond

File one original Notary bond or E&O and one Oath of Office with the parish clerk of court. Then file the following with the Secretary of State:

Original or a certified true copy of your bond or E&O (signed by the parish clerk of court)
Official signature page
Original oath of office
State filing fee
