Canada Issues Record Number of Visitor Visas, On Target For Million Mark In 2012
Canada’s Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced last month that Canada has issued a record number of visitor visas so far this year, and that they are on target for a record-breaking 2012. The surge has come on the heels of recent efforts to attract visitors and workers to the country.
“Canada is the best country in the world, so it is not surprising that so many people want to visit our country,” said Minister Kenney. “Our country’s vibrant cities and remote wilderness are a draw for Canadians and international travellers alike.”
With over 500,000 visitor visas issued since the beginning of 2012, this year’s figures significantly trump last year’s total at this same juncture of just over 450,000. Canadian immigration authorities predict that they will grant over one million visitor visas by the end of 2012.
Canada has in recent years increased efforts to attract visitors, skilled workers, and entrepreneurs, including the recent implementation of a five-year program designed to attract immigrant entrepreneurs.
