CA Live Notary Training and Exam

California Live Training Information

Our state-approved live training satisfies the 6 hours of state required Notary training and allows you to interact with a professionally trained Notary instructor and ask questions while you learn. Live Scan fingerprinting and application photo services are available before the seminar begins.

The state-required Notary exam will take place immediately following the live seminar.

Schedule

Please refer to the following schedule when planning your day with us:

Live Seminar and Exam Schedule:

  • 7:30 a.m. Live Training Check-in. Live Scan & Photo services begin.
  • 8:30 a.m. Live Training promptly begins. If you are late, you will need to reschedule.
  • 4:00 p.m. Live Seminar ends. CPS proctors take over. They will collect your state fee and the exam will begin as soon as everyone is registered. If you arrive late, you will need to reschedule.

Exam Only Schedule:

  • 2:00 p.m. Check in no later than 2:00 p.m. for Live Scan and Photo Services.
  • 4:00 p.m. The scheduled live seminar ends. CPS proctors take over for the scheduled exam. They will collect your state fee and the exam will begin as soon as everyone is registered. If you arrive late, you will need to reschedule.

FAQs

What do I need to bring with me to my Live Seminar and Exam location?

  1. A Notary public application that includes all single-sides pages and instructions, or you may pick one up and fill it out at the venue.
  2. A check or money order for $40.00 payable to the ‘Secretary of State’ for your exam fee. Cash, temporary checks and credit cards are not accepted.
  3. A current (not expired) state-issued picture ID. Examples include:

    • California driver’s license or DMV-issued ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver’s license
    • Passport (U.S. or foreign)
    • U.S. military ID card

IMPORTANT: The following ARE NOT acceptable forms of ID:

  • A driver’s license issued by the DMV that has a punched hole in the card.
  • Paper driver’s licenses, including paper license extensions.

What do I need to bring with me if I am just taking the exam (not attending the live seminar)?

  1. A printout of the Proof of Completion of your Notary training course.
  2. A Notary public application that includes all single-sides pages and instructions, or you may pick one up and fill it out at the venue.
  3. A check or money order for $40.00 payable to the ‘Secretary of State’. The fee is $20.00 if you are retaking the exam. Cash and temporary checks are not accepted.
  4. A current (not expired) state-issued picture ID. Examples include:

    • California driver’s license or DMV-issued ID card
    • Canadian or Mexican driver’s license
    • Passport (U.S. or foreign)
    • U.S. military ID card

IMPORTANT: The following ARE NOT acceptable forms of ID:

Is parking provided at your training and exam locations?

Any parking fees are your responsibility. We recommend contacting the venue directly for information on parking locations and rates. Please be aware that some venues do not provide in-and-out privileges.

Do I need to buy training materials for my live training?

All workbooks and other training materials will be provided to you at no additional charge.

Can I use a foreign passport as my identification?

If you ONLY have a foreign passport as your form of ID, you must present two additional supporting documents. Choose two from the list below:

  • Utility bill with your address
  • Jurisdictional voter registration card
  • Vehicle registration card/title
  • Paycheck stub
  • Jurisdictional public assistance card
  • Spouse/parent affidavit
  • Canceled check or bank statement
  • Mortgage documents

Is my Notary training tax-deductible?

All expenses (registration, travel, meals, and lodging) of education undertaken to maintain or improve your professional skills are tax-deductible (Treasury Regulation 1.162-5). State deductions are subject to limitations of the tax code. See your tax preparer for advice.

What if I arrive late to my live training or exam?

State rules prohibit late arrivals from admission into a training or exam that has begun. If you are late, call us at 1-800-876-6727 to reschedule

What if I need to reschedule, transfer, or cancel my training?

To reschedule, transfer to another location, or cancel your training or exam, call 1-800-876-6827 at your earliest convenience.

  • You can reschedule your training or exam at no charge.
  • Cancellations will receive a full refund upon request.
  • Cancellation, transfer, and refund policies are subject to change without notice.
