National Notary Association Increases Identity Proofing Assignments for Notaries Through Expanded Relationship with Exostar

Chatsworth, California - June 27, 2011

The National Notary Association, the leader in best practices, training, and advocacy for the nation’s 4.8 million Notaries, announced today that it is increasing identity-proofing assignments to its nationwide network of Trusted Enrollment Agents (TEA) through an expanded relationship with Exostar.

Exostar is a leading, global issuer of higher-assurance credentials, including public key infrastructure (PKI) digital certificates. These credentials allow enterprises, government agencies, and other organizations to more securely control access to their business-critical applications and data by authorized individuals worldwide. As Exostar’s business grows, it is relying on the NNA’s TEA network to meet the rapidly rising demand for in-person identity verification. These assignments are an integral part of the credentialing process for Medium Level of Assurance (MLOA) certificates, which are issued to individuals doing business with Exostar’s aerospace and defense (A&D) and life sciences customers.

“Notaries are ideally suited to assist the certificate-issuing process because, as state-commissioned public officials, their essential role is to verify the identities of document signers,” said NNA Chief Executive Officer Marc Reiser. “Our TEA program is creating a tremendous opportunity for Notaries while serving the growing demand among businesses and other organizations for identity-proofing services — as demonstrated by our growing relationship with Exostar.”

“The track record of our cloud-based Identity and Federation services is leading to more customer engagements of increasing size and scope,” said Vijay Takanti, Exostar’s Vice President of Security and Collaboration Solutions. “By working with the NNA and its TEAs, we can demonstrate the compliance and scale necessary to efficiently and effectively complete the in-person vetting required to issue higher-assurance credentials to a large, geographically dispersed community.”

Through the TEA program, NNA-trained, certified and background screened Notaries are dispatched to provide a variety of identity-proofing and notarial tasks. The program serves clients in the aerospace, biopharmaceutical and other industries as well as in the government sector, helping to protect vital business transactions and the exchange of information.
